Kentucky State Wins SIAC Volleyball Championship

Frankfort, KY— In a rematch of the 2009 championship match, Kentucky State defeated Albany State in straight sets, 25-20, 25-12, and 25-22, to claim the 2010 SIAC Volleyball Championship.

The Thorobrettes were led by junior outside hitter Mercedes Parker, who finished with 15 kills in the championship match, and junior setter Brittany Stewart. Parker, a 2010 All-SIAC selection, was named Tournament MVP while Stewart was named Setter of the Tournament. Kentucky State finished with a perfect 4-0 record throughout the tournament.

Albany State, who defeated Benedict and Claflin to reach the championship match, finished with a 6-2 record in the tournament. The Golden Rams were led by All-Tournament selections Sabrina Garcia and Priscila Sena.

With their victory, Kentucky State ends Albany State’s nine-year conference championship run. The Thorobrettes advance to the NCAA South Regional which will be held November 18-21 in Tampa, FL.
