(BOWIE, MARYLAND – Bowie State University Athletic Director Derek Carter officially announced the hiring of Douglas (Doug) J. Robertson, Jr. as the new head coach of the Lady Bulldogs basketball program at a Wednesday morning press conference. "This is a great day for the University and a great day for our Athletic Department," said Carter. "Doug brings a wealth of basketball knowledge and enthusiasm to our program and will be a tremendous asset. We look forward to our women’s program returning to the Championship status we’ve held in the past."

Robertson has spent the last five seasons (2000-2005) as the number one assistant of Division I Delaware State University. "This journey has taken about 19 years in terms of my basketball career and my involvement in basketball," said Robertson. "I’m excited about the opportunity to be back at my alma mater and back with all the familiar faces that I remember during my first tenure here. My passion for the institution and our women’s basketball program is enormous. We had a successful six years the first time around as the Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Coach and look forward to getting the Lady Bulldogs to that elite status. My goal is to get back to that level … It’s going to be challenge … we’re going to work hard, have fun, win and graduate"

Robertson, a native of Baltimore (MD), earned a bachelor’s from Bowie State in 1995 and is currently pursuing a master’s of public administration.
